Paint Chips Project Finished.......I think

I finally finished the paint chip project I wanted to do. I still have other ideas up my sleeves, but this one project will satisfy me for now. I first told you about the project here. I love the way it all looks on our mantle!

I'm constantly changing things on the mantle because I haven't found that ONE perfect thing to do there. The big hole drives me crazy most of the time because I can't figure out a great and unique way to do something there. So for now, it looks like this. and I can live with it.

New Wreath for the Front Door

I finally got around to making the wreath I wanted for the front door. My time was busy with quilling lately, so it was nice to get back to something else for a second. But I'm ready to get back to quilling though ;)

So here's what I made! I used a straw wreath (still in the plastic), wrapped yarn around it a million times, and made cute felt roses. Add some simple ribbon, and viola!

I enjoy making wreaths, so I think I'll make some for birthday and Christmas gifts this year. I assume that my mom and sister-in-law might like one. :)

Update: Quilling Tree

Well, my quilling tree was a huge success at the silent auction! It kind of started a bidding war, and the person who won it told me they were SO excited to get it! I got a ton of compliments on it as well, and people even said they had no idea I "was so talented". Ha! I don't know if I'll say it's talent, but I appreciate the comment just the same :)

The leader of the silent auction has already asked me to make another quilling piece for the auction next year. And after I showed it to my boss, she now wants me to make the Alabama logo with this technique and she is going to pay me! Plus another person wants me to quilling something for her daughter's bar mitzvah. And one of the people who bid on my project but lost has asked me to make something for her. and she'll pay me as well! This could turn into a small business, it seems!

So it looks like I'll be doing a lot more quilling. But I love it, so that's ok! However, I think this weekend, I want to work on something else besides quilling. I think our front door really needs a wreath. :)

Latest Quilling Project: Tree!

I finally finished my latest quilling project. I created this for the silent auction for the talent show we're having at work for ArtsMemphis.  I will be tickled pink if someone actually bids on this! But if no one does, that's ok too because it means that I get this back. After spending so much time on it, that wouldn't be so bad. But really, I hope someone is willing to pay for this. :)

I first told you about this here. Next I created the tree and limbs by filling out what I had already drawn.

Next, I cut out strips of green paper. Each strip is about 1/8th of an inch.

Then usually the quilling technique, I started making the leaves. This was the most time consuming part of the project.

Finally, I ended up with something like this.

Actually, this is only about half of the total leaves I needed. After I finished making the leaves, I started gluing them around the tree limbs using Modge Podge. Oh, how I love that stuff!

Then I kept on adding!

Until finally it was completely filled in.

Then I added it to a shadow box. All done!

This is my biggest quilling project to date. And I really like it. I already have an idea on what to quill next. But I think I'll take a break from quilling. Our front door really needs a wreath. :)

First Paint Chip Project

Remember when I told ya about getting all those paint chips? Well, I finally got around to finishing my first project with them.

Ta da!

First I cut out the little squares from my paint chips

Then added a line of tape to my card stock.

Next I added a paint chip, one at a time.

Then I cut off the ends that lapped over and framed it!

I plan on making lots more of these in different size frames and with different colors. Then I'll hang them gallery style in our bedroom.

I also worked for a few hours on another quilling project. It's going to take me a long time to finish, but it has to be completed by June 13. After a nice day of crafting, I think I'm going to take a break and wait for the pizza delivery guy. Happy weekend!
